Naturalization Attorney in New Orleans

Helping Clients Obtain Citizenship

Although both grant a person U.S. citizenship, naturalization and citizenship are slightly different processes. When a child is born to parents who are U.S. citizens, he or she is automatically given a certificate of citizenship. On the other hand, when someone obtains U.S. citizenship later on in life, he or she is granted a certificate of naturalization. Though both certificates grant a person with the same rights, they are technically separate processes.

Naturalization requires extensive paperwork and can be a complicated process. At Wheatley Immigration Law, LLC, we recommend that you work with a capable attorney to ensure that your immigration case is as strong as possible. Our New Orleans naturalization attorney serves prospective U.S. citizens nationwide.

To learn more about the process of naturalization or to request a consultation with our attorney, please call (504) 784-6803 or complete our online contact form.

The Process

Naturalization begins with the N-400 form and other paperwork. Applicants should already be lawful permanent residents of the U.S. in possession of a green card.

Other requirements when seeking naturalization include:

  • Length of residency and continuous residency (depending on whether you are filing as a spouse of a U.S. citizen or a member of the military
  • Ability to speak and write in English
  • Good moral character

Eligible applicants must also attend an interview and pass a civics test. Our New Orleans naturalization attorney can walk you through each step of the process and ensure that you are thoroughly prepared.
